You will enjoy your trip much more if you have all the right gear. Each volunteer must bring the following gear in addition to all personal items. Tools, camp cook gear, and First-Aid equipment will be provided by the host.
Required Equipment for each Volunteer Vacation:
- Tent (unless host provides cabin accommodations)
- Sleeping bag
- Personal eating utensils
- Long pants
- Long-sleeve shirts (not always required by host but necessary)
- Work gloves (often provided by host)
- Sturdy Hiking/work boots
- Rain gear (tops and bottoms)
- Two 1-Liter reusable water bottles
- Day pack for transporting your lunch, extra clothes, water bottles, and other items to the worksite.
See our comprehensive Equipment Checklist for further help in planning for your trip. This list is only a guide, so pay attention to any special instructions from your host and crew leader for your project. Always bring the 10 Essentials in your pack for an enjoyable Volunteer Vacation.
Prior to attending a volunteer vacation, every participant must fill out a liability form for the year that their volunteer vacation occurs. One form per calendar year will cover all the trips you participate in within that year. 2010 Volunteer Vacations Assumption of Risk and Release Form
