HOUSE TRAILS CAUCUS In 1997, several members of Congress organized the House Trails Caucus to better inform their colleagues about our National Trails System. Currently chaired by Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), the Trails Caucus is intentionally bipartisan. Its mission is to increase awareness of the national system of trails in the United States . Members of the caucus are active in fulfilling its mission through a variety of venues. The caucus holds forums and events to provide background information to its members regarding trails. During the past few years Caucus members participated in hikes in the DC-metro area (e.g. Rock Creek Park, Potomac Heritage Trail) with American Hiking staff and receptions with American Hiking Society and representatives from trail organizations from around the nation during Hike the Hill: Trails Advocacy Week. Caucus members are encouraged to participate in and help promote National Trails Day. Many members also speak up for trails and champion issues such as trail funding.
