The success of any Volunteer Vacation depends in part on the leader. Leading a Volunteer Vacation crew for American Hiking is immensely rewarding and one of today's premier volunteer leadership positions working to support America's trails. You do not have to be a certified or expert trail builder to take on the duties and responsibilities of an American Hiking Volunteer Vacation crew leader. But you do need to be motivated to improve our nation's foot trails— one trail at a time.

Crew leaders are responsible for pre-trip communications, meal planning and ensuring the well-being of all volunteers. Good communication and organizational skills are essential. Flexibility and a good sense of humor are important and most welcome!
American Hiking greatly values these efforts and appreciates our crew leaders for their tireless efforts to make each trip as enjoyable and productive as possible. Consider joining us in this important role to help improve our nation's trails and create memorable experiences for you and our many volunteers.
