CONSERVATION SYSTEM PARTNERS

The Conservation System Alliance is a group of more than 60 recreation, conservation and cultural groups with one common goal: to promote and protect the Bureau of Land Management's National Landscape Conservation System. American Hiking Society participates in the steering committee of the Conservation System Alliance in Washington DC, representing the perspective of hikers and protecting the Conservation System's thousands of miles of hiking trails.

Are you part of a hiking, hunting, bird-watching or conservation group in the west? Does your group protect or steward one of the special places in the BLM's Conservation System? Are you a concerned citizen who wants to make sure the next generation can enjoy the BLM's lands and waters?

For more information about the Conservation System Alliance, contact Seth Levy, Manager of the Western Public Lands Initiative at 301-565-6704, x 302, or SLevy@AmericanHiking.org

Part of the Conservation System Alliance’s mission is to raise the Congressional profile of the BLM's Conservation System by working with the NLCS Congressional Caucus. Composed of 26 Members of Congress with diverse geographic and political affiliations, this bipartisan caucus is united by their strong vision to promote and protect the BLM's Conservation System.

The Conservation System Alliance holds regular conferences and symposia to raise awareness of research on Conservation System lands. Conferences and symposia in the last 5 years have focused on diverse subjects, from the Antiquities Act to taking advantage of scientific resources on BLM lands. Information about upcoming conferences is posted on www.ConservationSystem.org.

Members of the Conservation System Alliance educate Members of Congress and their staff about resources and management challenges of the BLM's Conservation System. Whether it means meeting with Congressional staff in Washington, DC, or exploring issues in person, members of the Conservation System Alliance educate Congress about providing the BLM with adequate resources to steward some of the most special places in America.
