The Bureau of Land Management's National Landscape Conservation System offers some of the most remarkable landscapes found on public lands in the American West. Each of these places has received special recognition and protection through congressional or presidential conservation designations. The Conservation System not only focuses on the management needs of these national treasures, but also raises public awareness of their cultural, ecological, scientific, and other values. They also offer some of the world's greatest hiking adventures. When you enjoy these hikes, remember to Leave No Trace.

The BLM manages approximately 13% of the surface area of America for multiple uses – part of the larger mission of the Bureau to sustain the health of the public lands for present and future generations, an increasing challenge in the rapidly growing west.

American Hiking Society is proud to cooperate with the Bureau of Land Management to raise awareness of the newest system of conservation lands in America. For 30 years, American Hiking Society has served as the national voice of American hikers to protect trails and promote the hiking experience. Raising awareness of the need to maintain and enjoy the BLM's Conservation System is a natural outgrowth of this mission.
