Volunteer! - American Hiking Society Volunteer Vacations
provide opportunities to travel to a beautiful places, maintain trails
or protect natural resources on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management
(any many other land management agencies). These projects week-long projects
offer something for everyone and you'll get to see hidden places on some
of the best lands the Bureau of Land management has to offer. To learn

BLM VOLUNTEER VACATIONS
Click on the following BLM Volunteer Vacations to learn more and sign up

- Hells
Canyon Wilderness, AZ
Despite the ominous name, this trip offers easy access to hot springs
and the chance to observe a unique palo-verde ecosystem.
- Vernal
Field Office, UT
This trip involves constructing brand-new trail near a ranch frequented
by the notorious "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid."
- Roseburg
District-Swiftwater Resource Area
After building trail in the beautiful rain forest, volunteers can hike
the North Umpqua Trail or kayak and fish in the North Umpqua River.
- Grants
Pass Resource Area, Medford District
While maintaining the scenic Rogue River Trail, volunteers can appreciate
the wildflowers along the officially designated Wild Rogue River.
- Grants
Pass Resource Area, Medford District
Where the other Grants pass trip is in the low country, this project
offer spectacular views from the ridge top London Peak Trail.
- King
Range National Conservation Area, CA
This proect maintains trail along 30 miles of wilderness quality beaches.
Between the towering King Range mountains and the wild surf, this trip
offers unmatched beauty.
- Burns
District Office
Forget your image of Oregon as a rain forest. This project is in the
high desert, in the shadow of the towering Steens Mountain. This trip
offers dramatic scenery and the option for a staggering high-altitude
scenic drive.

Does your local trail group want to maintain or establish a trail on BLM
lands? American Hiking Society manages the only private, non-profit trail
grants program in America.
Local trail groups have done amazing things with resources provided through
American Hiking Society's National Trails Fund Program. The image to the
right shows the site of a recent American Hiking Society national Trails
Fund project in the Devil's Garden area of Grand Staircase-Escalante National
Monument.

JOIN THE CONSERVATION SYSTEM ALLIANCE
Are you part of a hiking club in the West? Are you a member of a "Friends" group
of a natural area managed by the BLM? Are you a concerned citizen that
wants to help protect these special places for the next generation to enjoy?
Join the effort to defend the BLM's Conservation System by joining the Conservation System Alliance , a group of nearly 60 recreation, conservation and cultural
groups that are devoted to promoting and protecting the National Landscape
Conservation System.
