Greg Miller Departs AHS

The Board of Directors announces the departure of Greg Miller, President of American Hiking Society, effective November 29, 2016. In more than 11 years with the organization, Greg leaves behind a legacy of accomplishments: advocated successfully for the passage of significant pieces of legislation to protect hiking trails and surrounding lands, doubled the size and scope of American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® and instituted Alternate Breaks – American Hiking’s volunteer stewardship program for college students.

Greg has been a true advocate and steward for hiking, promoting American Hiking Society as the national voice for hikers in America. His passionate work on behalf of hikers will be missed by the organization and its partners. As he departs, he leaves behind a strong organization that is ready for new challenges.

The Board of Directors has appointed Peter Olsen, Vice President for Programs & Government Relations to be the Interim Executive Director. In the coming months the Board’s Search Committee, chaired by Bradley Ellis, will conduct a search for a new Executive Director to lead American Hiking Society to new heights.
