Bipartisan support for Great Outdoors Month

May, 2014 – The President and nearly all US governors agree – America has some truly unique natural landscapes that provide US citizens with incredible opportunities for outdoor recreation.  That’s why the President of the United States and many of our elected officials have declared June as Great Outdoors Month.  President George W. Bush issued the first Presidential Proclamation of June as Great Outdoors month in 2004, and the tradition has continued every year since.

This year there are thousands of FREE, public activities throughout June that enable Americans to experience and learn more about the outdoors.  Starting with National Trails Day on June 7, events are taking place in all 50 states and range from guided hikes to volunteer stewardship events and more.  For the latest listing of National Trails Day events, visit https://americanhiking.org/ntd-events/.  Following National Trails Day, Americans can get out on National Marina Day (June 14th), National Get Outdoors Day (June 14) and National Wildlife Federation’s Great American Backyard Campout (June 28th).
