Like you, Liz feels empowered when she hikes. She is exhilarated by the impact of putting one foot in front of the other. As an AHS Ambassador, she has met thousands of hikers just like you. She has seen how the outdoors can help people get fit and bring families closer together. For Liz, hiking has given her the power to make her own decisions and choose her own path.
But trails don’t just happen.
She needed to know how trails are made. Through American Hiking Society’s programs, Liz learned that every trail must be built to last. She discovered that federal policies and elected officials can and will impact the places you love to hike. Every trail – big and small – requires agency supporters, funders, legislators, advocates, and hikers.
Your gift today will help protect the places you love to hike. Every day hiking trails are threatened.
Trails are lost due to development, resource extraction, or simply closed due to a lack of maintenance funding. American Hiking Society is your voice on Capitol Hill to make sure those trails are not in jeopardy.
Since 2016 is an election year, your support now is crucial. Legislators need to know that trails are important to you. Failure by the last Congress to pass so many bills affecting trails is not acceptable. Funding to complete trails, fill gaps, and provide trail access and maintenance is key to protecting the hiking experience. Just like Liz, you should have the opportunity to use trails as a means of empowerment.
Tell the next Congress that as a hiker, you expect and demand access to well-kept hiking trails.
