SUMMARY:Norskedalen Nature and Heritage Center
DESCRIPTION:TRIP CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19: \n  \nAfter three major floods in a two year time frame\, resources that would normally go into trail maintenance have gone into flood clean-up. The Goat Loop Trail and Stry Wold Trail have almost completely naturalized as a result. Help with clearing these two trails\, potentially re-routing trails so that hikers no longer get lost in these beautiful spots\, will be a priority. Working on the trails surrounding the Poplar Creek will be another priority. These trails were heavily damaged in the floods; clearing the spring growth of invasive plants\, working to clear the remaining flood damage in places\, and a variety of other issues that will develop over the winter are examples of this work. Rebuilding bridges lost in the floods\, rebuilding historic corrals lost to flooding\, maintenance work on historic buildings such as chinking may also be on the project list.

SUMMARY:Norskedalen Nature and Heritage Center
DESCRIPTION:Norskedalen is a Nature & Heritage Center dedicated to preserving the Norwegian Culture and the Natural environment found in Wisconsin’s Driftless Area. Nine+ miles of established hiking trails need maintenance after two years of massive flood damage. In addition\, there are three new trails ready for development. New trails are following old logging trails and deer paths; while the ‘trail’ is naturally marked at this point\, there will be heavy work involved in clearing brush and trees. Established trails needing maintenance will involve reshaping in some instances and clearing debris in others. Lodging for the week will be in historic buildings\, although modern plumbing has been added! One goal for the week will be to rejuvenate the existing trails so that guests may enjoy the natural beauty of Norskedalen’s setting. A second goal will be to clear and establish at least one of the three trails marked for new use. \nTo get a wonderful history lesson about Norskedalen and see the beautiful scenery\, check out this video.
