SUMMARY:San Juan Island\, Mount Ben Preserve and Mount Grant Preserve
DESCRIPTION:We will be constructing a new hiker only trail on the Mount Ben Preserve located on San Juan Island. The Preserve straddles the southern shoulder of the Island’s highest ridge – Mount Dallas. The trail climbs approximately 450 vertical feet and is .75 mile in length with potential to connect to other trails in the future. The trail begins in a forested area with some fantastic old growth Douglas fir specimens and ascends into meadows with sweeping views of distant islands\, straits\, Vancouver Island and the Olympic Mountains. Trails will be constructed using existing native soil and stone and is steep in some sections.
