Therm-A-Rest and American Hiking Society partner to inspire the country on National Trails Day®

Therm-a-Rest, the leader in outdoor comfort, and American Hiking Society, the only national non-profit dedicated to protecting the places you hike, are pleased to announce their formal partnership to help further the conservation initiatives across the country. Therm-a-Rest has joined as a sponsor of National Trails Day, the country’s largest celebration of trails and aims to inspire Americans to get outside and be active.

“We are proud to partner with the American Hiking Society,” said Doug Jacot, vice president, Therm-a-Rest. “Protecting our natural places and maintaining trails through them is important to the Therm-a-Rest brand. By teaming up with the American Hiking Society for National Trails Day we’re thrilled to play an active role in ensuring future generations the same level of access to pristine places.”

Now in its 23rd consecutive year, National Trails Day challenges the public to explore nearby trails, to engage in outdoor recreation activities like hiking or horseback riding, to learn new outdoor skills, and to support the volunteer efforts of trail organizations.  Many National Trails Day events are family-oriented and offer attendees a tempered introduction to a new set of activities and recreation destinations.

“We are pleased and excited with our new partnership with Therm-a-Rest.  Therm-a-Rest products are ideal for all different types of hikers and we are honored to have our logo represented alongside their brand,” said Greg Miller, American Hiking Society President. “The generous sponsorship of National Trails Day will allow us to raise awareness of the benefits of hiking and work to conserve more parks and trails across America.”

Outdoor recreation is a growing industry and hiking is one of the top activities with a told 50.3 million hikers and backpackers in 2013 (Outdoor Foundation of America).  It has been reported that in 2012, there were over 900 million visits to national parks, national monuments, and other federal managed lands and waters helped support over $646 billion in spending on outdoor recreation.  The health benefits of getting outside and active are immeasurable.  Doctors recommend hiking to aide in a number of maladies including osteoporosis, heart health, and mental health. It is an affordable and accessible activity that connects people and brings families together.
