SUMMARY:SPECIAL $250 REGISTRATION: Birding and Fish in Allegheny Foothills National Wildlife Refuge\, PA
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL $250 REGISTRATION: Our federal public lands are facing threats like never before—over 5\,700 staff have been eliminated and funding is being cut resulting in trails eroding\, habitats shrinking\, and public access cut off. Your support is needed now more than ever to protect these places! We are in urgent need of volunteers on projects across National Forests\, National Wildlife Refuges\, Bureau of Land Management sites and other federally managed public lands. \nTo meet this moment and step up where our federal land management partners need the most support \, we’re providing a special one time only reduced cost ($250) for new registrations. Everyone should have the opportunity to protect our public lands. \nVolunteer at Erie National Wildlife Refuge within the French Creek Watershed\, one of the most ecologically diverse watersheds east of the Mississippi River! Birds\, fish\, and mussels await your discovery along with unlimited recreation opportunities! \nJust 35 miles south of Lake Erie in northwestern Pennsylvania\, French Creek\, the most biologically diverse stream in Pennsylvania\, flows near the Refuge where over 80 species of native fish are found. The refuge is designated as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society and attracts more than 230 species of birds. \nThe beautiful rolling hills at the foothills of the Allegheny are a hub of outdoor recreation. The refuge has 5 hiking trails totaling over 7 miles. \nVolunteers are needed to help support the refuge through conducting general trail maintenance including brush clearing\, building small footbridges\, posting signage and spreading mulch. \nThere is no experience needed to join a Volunteer Vacation! Your expert hosts will provide detailed instruction\, tool demonstrations\, and project oversight throughout the week. All you need is a willing attitude and to be in good physical condition to participate in moderate physical activity for approximately 6-8 hours a day with plenty of breaks\, at your own pace. Find out more about what it’s like to join a Volunteer Vacation and other frequently asked questions here.
