SUMMARY:Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument
DESCRIPTION:This project will help improve three trails (Mt. Trumbull\, Nampaweap\, Mt. Logan) within a 10 mile area. The Mt. Trumbull and Mt. Logan trails are in designated Wilderness Areas. These trails would likely receive more visitors if the trails were in better condition. Volunteers would help improve outstanding recreation opportunities on these two trails by moving small blown down trees from a recent wildfire and brushing back vegetation overgrowth on the trail. The Mt. Logan Overlook trail would be especially spectacular as it leads to a natural amphitheater of red and yellow limestone. This has been inaccessible for years due to poor trail maintenance. The Nampaweap Trail is in fairly good condition\, but would involve some surface re-contouring and cutting back vegetation near panels of Native American rock writing. The tools to be used would be hand tools\, such as a: pulaski\, mcleod\, shovel\, rake\, brush trimmers and clippers\, wheel barrows\, and may include cross-cut saws. The overall goal for the week would be to open these areas to more visitors to enjoy and experience hiking in the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. This project would come on the heels of completing new trailheads at each site.
