SUMMARY:FULL: Repair and Restore a Historical Hand-Planted Forest: Sand Dunes and Forests in Nebraska National Forest
DESCRIPTION:FULL Our federal public lands are facing threats like never before—over 5\,700 staff have been eliminated and funding is being cut resulting in trails eroding\, habitats shrinking\, and public access cut off. Your support is needed now more than ever to protect these places! We are in urgent need of volunteers on projects across National Forests\, National Wildlife Refuges\, Bureau of Land Management sites and other federally managed public lands. \nTo meet this moment and step up where our federal land management partners need the most support \, we’re providing a special one time only reduced cost ($250) for new registrations. Everyone should have the opportunity to protect our public lands. \nHelp repair fire damage and restore a trail in the world’s largest hand-planted forest while being amongst sand dunes in the largest contiguous and least disturbed prairie system in the United States!! The beautiful Bessy Ranger Districts located in central Nebraska’s Sandhills\, adjacent to the Middle Loup River. It is a popular camping stop for cross-country travelers as well as a local favorite\, with many people returning every year to enjoy the scenery\, relax\, and recreate. \nIn October 2022 the Bovee Fire burned approximately 5\,000 acres of historical hand- planted forest\, including the trail and lookout tower. Volunteers are needed to help re-mulch and re-sign the Scott Lookout Trail to make it accessible and welcoming to visitors. \nThere is no experience needed to join a Volunteer Vacation! Your expert hosts will provide detailed instruction\, tool demonstrations\, and project oversight throughout the week. All you need is a willing attitude and to be in good physical condition to participate in moderate physical activity for approximately 6-8 hours a day with plenty of breaks\, at your own pace. Find out more about what it’s like to join a Volunteer Vacation and other frequently asked questions here.
