SUMMARY:Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore\, Michigan - Volunteer Vacations 2022
DESCRIPTION:The Beaver Basin Wilderness includes 13 miles of stunning Lake Superior shoreline from Spray Falls on the west to Sevenmile Creek on the east. The Beaver Basin Wilderness offers opportunities for quiet\, solitude\, wilderness recreation\, and spiritual renewal. The wilderness zone includes 8.4 miles of the North Country National Scenic Trail and 8.5 miles of connector trails as well as six backcountry campsites. American Hiking Society Volunteers will assist with the annual trail clearance project to clear and rehab trails\, remove and replace boardwalks\, and build different types of trail assets. Hand tools such as shovels\, loppers\, grub hoes\, and other tools will be used. The goal is to open up and get the trails in shape for the summer hiking season. Unlike any other place on Lake Superior\, Pictured Rocks offers the opportunity to explore miles of pristine beaches\, hike nearly 100 miles of trails\, view towering sandstone cliffs\, and experience the serenity of northern woodlands. \nAHS acknowledges with gratitude that this project takes place on the traditional lands of the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ and Anishinabewaki ᐊᓂᔑᓈᐯᐗᑭ peoples past and present. We honor the land itself\, the Indigenous communities who have stewarded this land for generations\, and those who continue to steward these lands today. AHS invites all volunteers to join us in our commitment to support and amplify the work of Indigenous communities as they work to dismantle the systems of oppression that these communities continue to face today.
