In the heart of the Adirondack Park, one of the nation’s first Forever Wild Forest Preserves, 20 volunteers from across the country came together to support Champlain Area Trails by clearing brush, removing fallen logs, cutting trails into hillsides, and installing bridges and boardwalks to make the trails safer and more accessible. This was the largest Volunteer Vacation crew of the 2025 season.

Many participants are drawn to Volunteer Vacations because they combine stewardship with the opportunity to explore new places across the country. This trip was no exception. Volunteers spent their free time discovering the beauty of the Champlain Valley and even took a trip to Lake Placid, making the experience their own adventure.

One volunteer shared, “I really loved the trail work and meeting everyone, but my favorite part was experiencing all of this with my sister. It made the whole week feel even more special.” Volunteer Vacations often create space for families and friends to reconnect in meaningful ways while giving back to the public lands they care about. Whether working side by side on a new trail or sharing stories at the end of the day, these moments of shared purpose and discovery build memories that last long after the trip ends.

Together, this crew left behind miles of improved trails and a lasting reminder of what can be accomplished through teamwork, care, and connection to place.
