One More Call to Congress

December 4, 2015 – At AHS, we know we’ve asked quite a bit of you recently, but this is extremely important, so we’re asking you to reach out to Congress one more time. In a recent development impacting the survival of the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) as a viable tool for the protection of the places you love to hike, Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID) has introduced HR 4151.

Rep. Simpson’s bill is a House companion bill to LWCF legislation that passed through the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee twice by a wide bipartisan margin. That Senate legislation was crafted as a bipartisan compromise between Chairman Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Ranking Member Maria Cantwell (D-WA) to permanently reauthorize LWCF while making modest reforms to the program.

For Members of Congress looking for middle ground between HR 1814 and the Bishop proposal, this provides a new, reasonable path forward.

Take one simple action: AHS asks you to call your member of the House of Representatives today and

  1. Inform them that there is now a compromise bill (HR 4151) that is broadly bipartisan and that, while reauthorizing LWCF, makes reasonable updates to the program.
  2. Ask them to reach out to Speaker Ryan and tell him that that they support Rep. Simpson’s LWCF bill and would like it included in the omnibus appropriations package.

Thank you for taking action.
