A Day of Service for Hometown Trails and the People Who Love Them

Silver Spring, MD – Millions of people from across the country will hit the trail on Saturday, June 7, 2025, celebrating American Hiking Society’s 33rd annual National Trails Day®.

National Trails Day® is an annual day of action, that brings together hikers, cyclists, paddlers, equestrians, trail organizations, public land agencies, nonprofits, and businesses to ensure trails remain accessible for all. Now, more than ever, these outdoor spaces need our care. Across the country, volunteers will join trail maintenance projects, advocate for public lands, and participate in cleanups and outdoor education events.

American Hiking Society and trail enthusiasts nationwide invite people of all ages and abilities to connect with their communities and celebrate the outdoors. Everyone can be part of this national movement by giving back to their local trails and ensuring that all people have access to enjoy them through three simple actions:

Join: Find a local event or register an event;

Pledge: Commit to leaving the trail and the outdoor community better than you found them. American Hiking provides simple ways to make a positive impact;

Connect: Share how you’ll leave the trail and the outdoor community better than you found them by tagging #NationalTrailsDay and @AmericanHiking on social media.

“National Trails Day® is more than a celebration — it’s a call to action,” said Heather Klein Olson, Executive Director of American Hiking Society. “It’s an opportunity for everyone — from families and adventurers of all ages — to come together, have fun outdoors, and make a lasting impact on our trails and public lands.”

“National Trails Day® provides the perfect chance to get outside for a day of adventure and purpose,” Heather continued. “We warmly invite trail users of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to find an event and join the fun on National Trails Day® to celebrate the outdoors, promote community-building, and improve our physical and mental health by spending time in nature.”

American Hiking Society invites individuals and organizations to register their events for National Trails Day® for free at NationalTrailsDay.org. Tens of thousands of people will use the event database to find local events, making it easier than ever for communities to connect with meaningful trail stewardship opportunities.

The outdoor community is eager to give back to the natural spaces they love to explore, and hosting a National Trails Day® event is a powerful way to provide them with that opportunity! Event registration will continue until National Trails Day® on June 7, but we encourage event organizers to register by early May to ensure participants have ample time to plan their adventures. Let’s make an incredible collective impact on the outdoors in celebration of National Trails Day® — together, we can leave our trails better than we found them.

Last year, in 2024, over 42,00 individuals participated in events at nearly 700 sites nationwide, and more than 7,300 trail volunteers built and maintained 455 miles of trails in celebration of National Trails Day®. Join us in continuing the positive impact this year on June 7!
