Find Your Adventure at the Nation’s Largest Trails Celebration
Golden, Colorado – Across the country, individuals eagerly await fun summer adventures, and American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® will kick off the season of good times outside on Saturday, June 4, 2016. The largest annual trails celebration promises to deliver a wide variety of outdoor adventures to suit the nation’s craving to be immersed in the great outdoors.
Now in its 24th consecutive year, National Trails Day provides fun opportunities for the public to have a summer adventure of their own on nearby trails while taking part in activities such as hikes, trail runs, bicycle tours, horseback rides, stewardship projects, activities for kids, and much more. Many National Trails Day events are family-oriented and offer entry-level introductions to anyone who might like to try a new trail activity.
“Whether someone wants to participate in a centennial celebration event at a National Park or connect with other adventure seekers at a neighborhood open space, there’s a National Trails Day event for everyone,” explains American Hiking Society President Gregory Miller. “Our nation’s trails offer individuals from all walks of life boundless opportunities to enjoy nature, reconnect with family and friends, and establish a lifetime of fitness. We’ve seen significant increases each year in National Trails Day participation, and last year more than 2,300 activities attracted more than 176,000 Americans to participate in the National Trails Day festivities in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Canada.”
Parks, hiking clubs, environmental organizations and others should register their June 4 events at AmericanHiking.org for inclusion in the publicly searchable database. “Registering for National Trails Day helps us get the word out about the thousands of activities happening across the country,” according to Miller.
American Hiking Society encourages everyone to find a free event near them at AmericanHiking.org.
