Tens of Thousands to Unite in Honor of National Trails Day®

Inclusive Trail Events Will Leave the Trails and the Outdoor Community Better on June 3, 2023

Silver Spring, MD – April 13, 2023 – As spring sweeps across the country, hundreds of groups, organizations, and land managing agencies work diligently to organize exceptional and inclusive outdoor events to kick off summer. American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®, the largest annual trails celebration, is scheduled for Saturday, June 3, 2023, and will feature a wide variety of outdoor activities for the public to enjoy. Thanks to the dedicated event hosts who commemorate National Trails Day® by organizing events on hometown trails, people from sea to shining sea will have numerous opportunities to get outside and leave the trails and their outdoor community better than they found them this year.

American Hiking Society invites individuals and organizations alike to register an event for National Trails Day® for free on the searchable directory of events on the NationalTrailsDay.org website. As of early April, more than 200 events have been registered, and more events are added daily. Tens of thousands of people will use the event database to find events in their local community. Event registration will continue until National Trails Day®, but American Hiking encourages events to be registered by early May so interested participants can begin planning for Trails Day.

Last year, activities including hiking, cycling, trail running, horseback riding, paddling, demonstrations, trail service projects, trail dedications, and much more took place at more than 700 sites nationwide. More than 12,314 trail volunteers built and maintained more than 347 miles of trails in celebration of National Trails Day® in 2022.

“National Trails Day® provides the perfect opportunity to set off on a local trail with others in your community and enjoy our outdoors,” explains Heather Klein Olson, Acting Executive Director of American Hiking Society. “Time out on trails can unite us around a common experience, and a purpose of National Trails Day®  is to reduce barriers to transformative outdoor experiences for anyone interested in joining the nationwide movement and welcomes people of all ages, abilities, and walks of life.”

American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day® is made possible by the generous support of Corporate Sponsors – AKHG™ by Duluth Trading Co., Athletic Brewing Co., REI Co-Op, Osprey Packs, Waterford Press, LOWA Boots, and Fjällräven. Federal Partners include the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, and Federal Highway Administration.
