A Summer Adventure Awaits Your Family
With summer just around the corner, American Hiking Society has just the thing to get your family out of the house and having fun: National Trails Day®. On Saturday, June 3, adults and youngsters across the country will head outside for fun outdoor adventures on American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day at parks, forests, and trails in all 50 States.
For the past 25 years, American Hiking Society and local clubs, organizations, and parks have invited the public to attend special outdoor events on National Trails Day (NTD). Activities include hikes, bike rides, volunteer projects, trail runs, horseback rides, and paddle trips. Many locations offer family-friendly activities and kid specific activities such as bird feeder building, scavenger hunts, hands-on exhibits, and more.
For the last several years, Hike it Baby, a national organization dedicated to getting families out on the trails with newborns, toddlers, and children, has partnered with the American Hiking Society to encourage even more families to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Hundreds of local Hike it Baby groups host events on NTD to ensure young families feel welcome and connected to the great trails community.
Hike it Baby hosts NTD events because it firmly believes in its mission to raise the next generation to love the outdoors. These events are a unique opportunity to connect a child to a lifelong love of nature. Hike it Baby hosts a variety of trail hikes and children’s events to facilitate engagement among a variety of communities. Each branch is a community within the larger Hike it Baby community, offering different hiking venues and traditions. Hike it Baby wants every child to be able to experience the wonders of nature and hosting multiple NTD events makes this a possibility.
Hike it Baby offers resources for families who enjoy being outdoors to add a new baby into the mix, but they also create a safe space for parents and families who are new to outdoor adventuring. By participating in National Trails Day, Hike it Baby can reach a wider range of parents, families, and caregivers who may not have known about Hike it Baby, but were looking for a way to get on the trail with their kids.
Anyone wishing to get out into the great outdoors can find the perfect event for them. Most events are free and provide excellent introductions to people who might like to try a fun new activity. It’s easy to find a local event at NationalTrailsDay.AmericanHiking.org/ntd-events. To find kid specific activities, filter the search by selecting “Kids Activities” in the filter options.
