Westmoreland State Park, Virginia – Volunteer Vacations 2022
March 6, 2022 - March 12, 2022
Trip Navigation
Join American Hiking Society at Westmoreland State Park to construct and maintain historic trails to make them more accessible for all. On the Potomac River’s Northern Neck, this park offers many opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts from hiking to fossil hunting, birding, fishing and more. Erosion has drastically affected the topography at Westmoreland, and volunteers are needed to assist with maintenance and prevention of further erosion on the park’s popular trails. The volunteer crew will receive a formal trail maintenance training and tool orientation at the beginning of the week, making this trip a great one for first-time trail volunteers. Other projects to enhance visitor experience may be included depending on time. These include clean up of winter debris off of trails, redesigning our day use area and assisting with park updates.
AHS acknowledges with gratitude that this project takes place on the traditional lands of the Cuttatawomen, Pissaseck, and Onawmanient peoples past and present. We honor the land itself, the Indigenous communities who have stewarded this land for generations, and those who continue to steward these lands today. AHS invites all volunteers to join us in our commitment to support and amplify the work of Indigenous communities as they work to dismantle the systems of oppression that these communities continue to face today.
