Punchbowl Falls Oregons Hood River Valley

September 9, 2018 - September 16, 2018

Trip Navigation

Punchbowl Falls County Park, located on the West Fork of the Hood River, near Dee, was acquired from a private timber company by the Western Rivers Conservancy just a few years ago, and finally came into public ownership in 2015 when Hood River County received a state grant to transfer the land from the conservancy. Trailkeepers of Oregon (TKO) has since been busy constructing a new loop trail geared toward families and casual hikers looking for an easy stroll with a lot of scenery. Next Fall will be the time to turn to the trail leading down to the confluence of the West Fork and main Hood Rivers. New trail development will be underway – brushing, duffing and building up trail tread to construct the new connection to this special place.

Area and Attractions

Punchbowl County Park is just 11 miles south of Hood River, OR. It’s the go-to destination for foodies, trekkers, historians and adrenaline junkies. Called the windsurfing capital of the world, Hood River is located at the panoramic crossroads of the Columbia River Gorge and the Cascade Range. It’s chock-full of scenic hiking and mountain biking trails, craft breweries, wineries and farm-to-table bounty. Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge - Two iconic features dominate the mythical landscape of this region: the soaring basalt cliffs forming the tremendous river gorge and the snow-capped peak of the state’s highest volcano. Within these boundaries, you’ll find no end of delights — towering old-growth forests, gushing waterfalls, spawning salmon and the mighty waters of the river. The valleys and hillsides are dotted with family farms and orchards, where chefs harvest fresh ingredients for their seasonally changing menus. This trove of natural wonders lures folks year-round, but especially in the summer, when crowds can tamper your pursuit of solitude; thankfully, you’ll often find quieter, lesser-known spots just around the corner. Whether you crave adventure or a taste of local bounty, come with a hefty appetite.
