Leavenworth Fisheries Complex, Washington – Volunteer Vacations 2022
July 10, 2022 - July 16, 2022
Trip Navigation

Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery is located 2 miles south of the popular small town of Leavenworth. With spectacular views of the nearby mountains and a coldwater river flowing through 170 acres of meadows and open Ponderosa pine forest, we are as much a community park as a hatchery. We get 100,000 visitors a year at our site, using over 5 miles of trail both summer and winter.
The Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery has a short trail that cuts down across a riverbank to reach an accessible fishing platform. Over the years, the trail’s edge has been pushed by downslope erosion; and periodic floods have damaged railing and trail as well. Volunteers will work to re-set the railroad ties that protect the upslope edge; replace, repair, or remove damaged railing; and clean up the trail and the alternate stairs. This will involve digging, sweeping, lifting railroad ties, and carrying heavy loads up and down the trail and/or stairs. The project is right beside Icicle Creek. Temperatures in the area in summer can occasionally exceed 100 degrees, but nights are significantly cooler at 1,200 feet elevation on the dry side of the Cascade Mountains.
AHS acknowledges with gratitude that this project takes place on the traditional lands of the np̓əšqʷáw̓səxʷ (Wenatchi) and Yakama peoples past and present. We honor the land itself, the Indigenous communities who have stewarded this land for generations, and those who continue to steward these lands today. AHS invites all volunteers to join us in our commitment to support and amplify the work of Indigenous communities as they work to dismantle the systems of oppression that these communities continue to face today.
