April 27, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - May 3, 2025 @ 8:00 am

Trip Navigation

Help repair fire damage and restore a trail in the world’s largest hand-planted forest while being amongst sand dunes in the largest contiguous and least disturbed prairie system in the United States!! The beautiful Bessy Ranger Districts located in central Nebraska’s Sandhills, adjacent to the Middle Loup River. It is a popular camping stop for cross-country travelers as well as a local favorite, with many people returning every year to enjoy the scenery, relax, and recreate.

In October 2022 the Bovee Fire burned approximately 5,000 acres of historical hand- planted forest, including the trail and lookout tower. Volunteers are needed to help re-mulch and re-sign the Scott Lookout Trail to make it accessible and welcoming to visitors.
