May 18, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - May 24, 2025 @ 8:00 am

Trip Navigation

Volunteer at Erie National Wildlife Refuge within the French Creek Watershed, one of the most ecologically diverse watersheds east of the Mississippi River! Birds, fish, and mussels await your discovery along with unlimited recreation opportunities!

Just 35 miles south of Lake Erie in northwestern Pennsylvania, French Creek, the most biologically diverse stream in Pennsylvania, flows near the Refuge where over 80 species of native fish are found. The refuge is designated as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society and attracts more than 230 species of birds.

The beautiful rolling hills at the foothills of the Allegheny are a hub of outdoor recreation. The refuge has 5 hiking trails totaling over 7 miles.

Volunteers are needed to help support the refuge through conducting general trail maintenance including brush clearing, building small footbridges, posting signage and spreading mulch.

There is no experience needed to join a Volunteer Vacation! Your expert hosts will provide detailed instruction, tool demonstrations, and project oversight throughout the week. All you need is a willing attitude and to be in good physical condition to participate in moderate physical activity for approximately 6-8 hours a day with plenty of breaks, at your own pace.
