Area and Attractions

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area consists of a network of National Parks, Monuments, and Historic Sites located in the San Francisco Bay Area, and stretches 70 miles north and south of the Golden Gate Bridge along the Pacific Ocean. The Parks include ancient redwoods, historic landmarks, miles of trails, rocky shorelines, rare and endangered species, lush coastal wilderness, and breathtaking vistas. Staying at the California Alpine Club is a great opportunity to explore a spectacular section of the San Francisco Bay Area and California coast. A short drive away (10 minutes) or longer hike (1.5mi; about 45 minutes) and you’ll be at the iconic Muir Woods National Monument (reservations required if driving in). The infamous Pelican Inn, a traditional English-style Tudor Inn, is about a 15 minute drive from the Alpine Club. Also nearby is the Green Gulch Farm Zen Center, a lovely place to walk around and enjoy the gardens, and on Sundays they offer public programs and sell homemade, delicious bread!
