Area and Attractions

Gulf Islands National Park protects an unparalleled landscape that provides important habitat for numerous rare and endangered species like the manatee, American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. Millions of visitors are drawn to the islands in the northern Gulf of Mexico for the white sandy beaches, the aquamarine waters, a boat ride, a camping spot, a tour of an old fort, or a place to fish. Volunteers have the opportunity to work during the day to be rewarded with sugar white beaches and a beautiful sunset on a nightly basis. Volunteers can look forward to a guided tour of Fort Pickens during their free time!

Accommodations Description

Volunteers will be staying in a fully furnished house, the Captain's House, at Fort Pickens. The house is equipped with a full kitchen, rooms with two twin beds, three bathrooms, washer and dryer. There is internet in the Visitors Center. Volunteers should bring their own linens (twin sized bed), towels, and personal gear.
