Area and Attractions

Adirondack Park is the largest protected forest preserve in the United States and boasts the slogan "Forever Wild." Champlain Area Trails (CATS) trails are located mostly in the Champlain Valley, along the beautiful 150 mile long Lake Champlain. Many of the trails offer fabulous views of the lake, the Green Mountains in Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The area in which the volunteers will be working has more gradual inclines (not as steep as the "High Peaks" region of the Adirondacks) with a variety of plants and wildlife. There are many things to do in the area: hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, shopping (Lake Placid, site of the 1980 Winter Olympics, is only 45 minutes away), many museums, waterfalls, and other attractions. This is the most beautiful time of year as the leaves are beginning to change!

Accommodations Description

Volunteers will stay in indoor dormitory style lodging with bunk beds. Showers and flush toilets on-site. Breakfast and dinner will be provided in the dining hall and the fixings for making lunch will be available for each volunteer to make their own lunch to take with them. Volunteers should bring their own linens (twin sized sheets or sleeping bag, pillow, and towel) and personal items.
